The Bateman family of silversmiths were highly regarded in Georgian London. Hester Bateman and her husband John had a small silversmith's shop in London in the late 18th century.  She was the most renowned lady silversmith in London at the time and her works are still highly sought after today.  Peter Bateman was her son, and Ann was the widow of her son Jonathan.  Their works were held in high regard and are still.  In 1800, Ann and Jonathan's son William joined his mother and uncle, producing silver objects under the names Peter, Ann and William Bateman.  The family concern continued into the mid-19th century.
